Can the Maghrebi princes of the 11th century be considered as “party-kings” ?
Résumé
Across the Strait of Gibraltar, the caliphal sovereignty did not vanish as abruptly as most of the historiography, who sees the fitna as a breakdown, likes to tell us. On the contrary, there are clues showing that the Far Maghrib had the same evolution as al-Andalus, and, more generally, that it kept sharing the same historical trajectory. Indeed, in both shores of the Strait, the political fragmentation led to the birth of principalities with much in common.
