Semantic transparency, semantic opacity, states of affairs, mental states and speech acts

There are two well-known views of linguistic communication: the code model and its counterpart, the hypothesis of the semantic transparency. If both of these views were correct, then there would be only one possible type of mishap in communication, that due to noise in the communication channel. However, none of these views is correct.
I will sketch a quick history of pragmatics relative both to the code model and to the hypothesis of semantic transparency. As we will see, the most recent pragmatic theories have discarded them. This enables them to account for the whole range of communication mishaps, from mere misunderstandings to sophisticated deception strategies. Incidentally it also enables them to propose a solution to Moore's paradox.

Il y a deux visions courantes de la communication linguistique : le modèle codique avec sa contre-partie, l'hypothèse de la transparence sémantique. Si ces deux visions sont correctes, alors il ne devrait pouvoir y avoir qu'un type d'échec dans la communication, dû au bruit dans le canal de transmission. Cependant, ni l'une ni l'autre de ces vues ne sont correctes. Je fais un bref rappel sur l'histoire de la pragmatique relativement tout à la fois au modèle du code et à l'hypothèse de la transparence sémantique. Comme on le verra, les théories pragmatiques les plus récentes les ont rejetés. Ceci leur permet de rendre compte de tous les échecs de la communication, depuis le simple malentendu jusqu'aux stratégies sophistiquées de tromperie. Par ailleurs, ça leur permet aussi de rendre compte du paradoxe de Moore.
