Travertine and terrace of the middle tarn valley at Millau (south of Massif Central, Aveyron, France) : OSL datings, contribution to chronology and palaeoenvironment.
ABSTRACT TRAVERTINE AND TERRACE OF THE MIDDLE TARN VALLEY AT MILLAU (SOUTH OF MASSIF CENTRAL, AVEYRON, FRANCE): OSL DATINGS, CONTRIBUTION TO CHRONOLOGY AND PALAEOENVIRONMENT The travertine deposits of the Tarn valley near Millau (south central massif, France) are reexamined. The OSL method replace the last glacial deposit during OIS 5a and 5b. An early travertine (La Rouquette) is reported to OIS 7. The building of one of the major travertine (Peyre) is of Eemian age. Prehistoric data are reliable to this new chronology and they would date of the end of the early Pleistocene the beginning of the travertine building. A rich invertebrates and mammals fauna is also associated; it gives as the flora significant precisions for knowledge of Mediterranean Pleistocene paleoenvironnements.
