L'AGNUS DEI DE LA PETITE MESSE SOLENNELLE. UNE PROPOSITION D'ANALYSE
Résumé
The Agnus Dei from Rossini's Petite messe solennelle (1864), a piece for solo contralto, chorus, two pianos and harmonium, is composed of three sections. The last of these sections has a physiognomy reminiscent of the groundswell structure, a slow crescendo movement commonly used in Italian opera from Bellini onwards. This article analyzes the Agnus Dei of the Petite messe solennelle according to the observation grid proposed by Kerman and Grey (1989), and endeavors to illustrate the first structures that, in Rossini's theatrical corpus, lead to the development of the groundswell.
