Préface - Les droits des peuples autochtones ont-ils une place dans les intégrations régionales ?

Abstract : This preface puts into perspective the way in which indigenous peoples, by mobilizing for the recognition of their rights and by linking their destiny to that of the defense of the environment, challenge the processes that affect their situations, including regional protection mechanisms for human beings. human rights, and those of "nature". The question is whether and how the rights of indigenous peoples can be respected and whether their contributions are indispensable to the protection of life around the world. In the eyes of the authors who work on the regional level, and on several forms of political and legal integration, three main lines appear. The first relates to the dynamics of the international system within which indigenous peoples strive to gain a foothold but which primarily responds to the interests of the member states of the United Nations (UN). The second is due to the industrial and commercial developments of globalization, which tend to integrate the world into a vast market by means of all kinds of agreements, treaties, contracts of which it is clear that the representatives of indigenous peoples do not are not involved in it. The third stems from concerns about the state of the planet and its resources, which question the capacity of this world to endure a development model that the representatives of indigenous peoples, alongside other social actors, question by promoting their knowledge and the sustainability of their economic practices.
