Paradoxe et contradiction dans le discours des moralistes français du XVII e siècle

Abstract : A simple, hackneyed, ambitious question : what is the specificity of the classical French moralist ? What form of knowledge concerning man does he offer ? An answer : his specificity lies in the rhetorical practice of paradox and contradiction; and he offers a paradoxical, contradictory knowledge of man — but a knowledge nonetheless.
