The Proximity of Cultural and Creative Activities in Quarters, Territorial Dynamics in Question

Abstract : Cultural and creative activities play a key role within the context of knowledge economy and competition between cities. These firms and associations are frequently concentrated in central former industrial districts. Their concentrations impact economic, social and urban dimensions of districts. Cultural and creative activities are involved in urban regeneration and generate positive economic and social dynamics. However, they also encourage gentrification and social selection. The Olivettes creative quarter is used as an illustration: it shows the transformation process from an industrial to a creative space. By this fieldwork, I examine the territorial dynamics linked to the proximity of cultural and creative firms in quarters.
