De la matérialité de l'irrigation. Réflexions sur l'approche de recherche utilisée

Abstract : Infrastructures are required for irrigation in order to divert, store or transportwater, and this generates adoubleresearch topic: infrastructure and water, each with theirown materiality. The logics underlying access to and the sharing of water are reflectedin them, that is, in the architecture ofirrigation networks as well as in the spatial and temporaldistributionofwater. Thus, viathis materialization, anthropologistsdecipher social relations, and water stakeholders expresspower relations, legitimizesocial historiesor justifypractices. While someapproaches strive to de-socializewater, an analysisbasedon the anthropology of techniquesor on politicalecologycannot ignorethe social dimensionof irrigationand the issuesexpressed throughits material aspects. «Modern» irrigation situations nevertheless call for a change in the scale of analysis and in how the water‑society interrelationship is interpreted.
