Altes und Neues zur Interjektion
Résumé
While some linguists have recently claimed that interjections were merely treated marginally by traditional grammarians, we would argue that there has been in fact quite substantial discussion about this part of speech in traditional grammar writing of German and French. After taking a closer look at some traditional and recent theories, we note that there are in deed continuities in the way interjections are treated. In the second part of our contribution, we raise the question of the relationship between the interjection as a part of speech and the exclamative mode. We then analyse the use of some 'expressive' interjections in chat, including acronyms borrowed from English such as WTH and native 'inflectives' such as "schluchz".
