Note sur la notion d'encastrement

Abstract : « Embeddedness » has become a classical notion of economic sociology to describe the dependence of the economy on other aspects of the social world. This paper seeks to present the genesis and contours of this notion. It starts with how the concept was defined by Mark Granovetter in the studies on the social networks as a basis for a « new economic sociology ». He then returns to the link with the use of the term by Karl Polanyi, and the differences between the two approaches, and then reported on the widespread use of the term. Finally, by introducing the concepts of Harrison White, it presents a use of the term as a part of works on the emergence of social forms.
