The French Institute of Byzantine Studies (IFEB) in Paris has a collection of seventy-two manuscripts, which has never been catalogued as a whole. The collection consists of fifty-seven Greek manuscripts (IFEB 1-56 and 72) and fifteen manuscripts in various other languages. The article traces the history of this collection since its formation in Istanbul in the late 19th and early 20th century. It provides the first complete and detailed inventory of the manuscripts, focusing on the following aspects: identification of texts, copyists and owners, and history of the manuscripts as relics of libraries which exist no more.
