Abstract : This paper deals with the function of dialogism (or polyphony) in the textual organization of description. Dialogic utterances are not scarce in descriptive texts, as shown from an analysis of textual portraits in newspapers. It is then assumed that dialogism is involved in the cognitive activity of description. A linguistic operation, defined as "dialogic connection", should be added to the common model of descriptive textuality. And this paper studies some of the ways in which the so called "dialogic connection" combines with other linguistic operations in the building of the descriptive text.
