La forêt de Princesse Mononoké d'Hayao Miyazaki : une contribution poétique à la prise de conscience environnementale

Abstract : Hayao Miyazaki's filmography is profoundly marked by a series of recurring themes: pacifism and the denunciation of the wars, the destruction of nature, and the relations that human societies establish with their natural environments. This article focuses more particularly on the representations of the tree and the forest in Princess Mononoké. It attempts to reveal the dynamics of Miyazaki's imagination and how they are grounded in a unique culture (shintôïste spirituality) and in history (post-war Japan). The paper examines how the work of an artist may be entirely registered in his own time and place, but be able at the same time to meet and even to anticipate contemporary universal concerns and to contribute to environmental awareness.
