Analyse des productions multimodales d'enfants français âgés de dix sept à quarante et un mois en situation de jeu.

Abstract : The current study focuses on the language behaviours of young French children during a free play session with an adult. Children aged 17 to 41 months who start using speech produce a lot of gesture-word combinations. Even if the role of these combinations has been well studied for Italian and English children, we know very little about the bimodal communicative means of young French children at the one- to two-words transition period. Our first goal is to document this issue for French children. Our second goal is to investigate the following stage (the transition to “three-words and over” speech), and the role played by these combinations in new linguistic acquisitions. Our observations show that there are developmental turning points at 24 and 30 month age which seem to be critical for the syntactic development of our subjects.
