This article proposes a critical and historical reflexion on the theme of the construction of the age categories and the fixation of the age thresholds. The end of the youth and the beginning of old age are analyzed.

Cet article cherche à opérer une déconstruction historique des seuils et catégories d'âge en démographie, en se penchant sur le cas de la transition de jeunesse à l'âge adulte, et sur le seuil d'entrée dans la vieillesse.
