L'accessibilité des piétons à l'espace public urbain : un accomplissement perceptif situé

Abstract : The accessibility of pedestrians to urban public space : a perceptive and embedded accomplishment. This paper raises the issue of accessibility in urban public space. In focusing on ordinary walking situations, it is possible to challenge the major trend of research related to disabled people. This paper shows how accessibiliy of pedestrians relies on a perceptive and embedded fulfilment. It introduces the idea of a " sensory configuration " : the configuring activity of pedestrian consists in catching, associating and finally appropriating ressources delivered by the sensory environment. This activity enables pedestrians to decode their immediate surroundings, to orient themselves and to adjust their behaviour according to others.
