Muslim women and halal meat markets in France

In France, the unprecedented development of the halal trade in the 1990s could at first glance be erpreted as a muslim community turning in on itself, which would be expressed through the tighter control of women's time and activities. Investigations of stems of production and distribution of halal products o not exclude this assumption, but do at least moderate it. Indeed, it seems that Muslim women play a prominent part in the development of his trade, in particular by virtue of their role in the efinition of quality and of halal meat prices.
