Yazid Kheloufi, un calligraphe concret

Born in 1963 in Hammam Boughrara, in western Algeria, Yazid Kheloufi is a plastic calligrapher inspired by the great Arab-Persian philosopher of the 10th century, Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi and the philosopher and mathematician Ahmad al-Buni, born in Annaba, in Algeria, died in 1225. He tends to be closer to mystical writing, considering the unity between what we see, what we understand and what we feel as a necessary condition for the expression of beauty. His compositions play on the directions of writing, with which he draws human forms, and on the materials: clay, which he engraves or models for 3D calligrams, and plexiglass. The calligram serves to him to put into perspective the past of the great texts of the Arab thinkers of the golden age of Islam (8th-11th centuries) and the present of the demands of the demonstrators of the Arab Spring (2010-2012).

Né en 1963 à Hammam Boughrara, dans l’Ouest algérien, Yazid Kheloufi est un plasticien calligraphe qui s’inspire du grand philosophe arabo-persan du Xe siècle, Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi et du philosophe et mathématicien Ahmad al-Buni, né à Annaba, en Algérie, mort en 1225. Il tend à se rapprocher de l’écriture mystique, considérant l’unité entre ce que l’on voit, ce que l’on comprend et ce que l’on ressent comme une condition nécessaire à l’expression de la beauté. Ses compositions jouent sur les directions de l’écriture, avec lesquelles il dessine des formes humaines, et sur les matières : l’argile, qu’il grave ou modèle pour des calligrammes en 3D, et le plexiglas. Le calligramme lui sert à mettre en perspective le passé des grands textes des penseurs arabes de l’âge d’or de l’Islam (VIIIe-XIe siècle) et le présent des revendications des manifestants des printemps arabes (2010-2012).
