During the XXth century the intellectual relations between France and Brazil have been very intense and varied (anthropology, history). Celso Furtado for his part developed his ideas on development in confrontation with French economists marked by their Brazilian experiences (Perroux, Byé, Boudeville, Courtin) and also with the great historian Fernand Braudel. The article highlights how the Brazilian economic, social and political history marked the development of economic ideas on both sides of the Atlantic.

Au XXe siècle les relations intellectuelles entre la France et le Brésil ont été très intenses et variées (anthropologie, histoire). . Celso Furtado pour sa part a développé ses idées sur le développement en confrontation avec des économistes français marqués par leurs expériences brésiliennes (Perroux, Byé, Boudeville, Courtin) et aussi avec le grand historien Fernand Braudel. L’article met en évidence comment l’histoire économique, sociale et politique brésilienne a marqué le développement des idées économiques de part et d’autre de l’Atlantique.
