LES CÉRAMIQUES COMMUNES DE BEYROUTH (SECTEUR BEY 002) AU DÉBUT DE L'ÉPOQUE ROMAINE
Résumé
The study of the pottery found in the excavations of BEY 002 at Beirut helped to identify a kind of
local common ware which is predominant in the Roman period levels (late 1st century BC-early 2nd century AD).
It is technically the same than the Hellenistic one. Its repertory combines fire pots belonging to the near eastern
tradition since the Iron Age with some “casseroles” from the Greek vessel and fire dishes imitating the Campanian
ones. This pottery shows the early integration of Beirut in an internationalisation of the kitchen material and of
the culinary habits, and probably outlines the presence of an important Italian settlement at Beirut as soon as the early 1st century BC.

La reprise de l'étude du mobilier des fouilles du secteur BEY 002 de Beyrouth a mis en évidence une catégorie de céramiques communes locales prépondérante dans les contextes d'époque romaine (fin du Ier s. av. J.-C.-début du IIe s. ap. J.-C.). Celle-ci reste techniquement semblable à celle de l'époque hellénistique. Son répertoire associe des pots à feu qui s'inscrivent dans une tradition typiquement proche-orientale remontant à l'âge du Fer, à des casseroles issues de la vaisselle grecque et à des plats à feu imitant des pièces campaniennes.
