La composante lamellaire dans
l'Aurignacien initial de la France Méditerranéenne.
Résumé
The lamellar component has played a key role in the recognition of the Early Aurignacian in Mediterranean France. In Languedoc, at the Esquicho Grapaou and La Laouza sites, “large bladelets” with a rectilinear profile appear as a major cultural feature of the lithic assemblages both in terms of typology and technology. Initially believed to be a by-product of blade debitage (grinding of ridges), the bladelet debitage is consistent with a laminar/lamellar continuum that was definitely deliberate and not simply the result of trial and error. The hypothesis of a debitage from strictly lamellar, prismatic and unipolar cores is also conceivable. In addition, there is evidence of the debitage of small bladelets that are either more curved or twisted from carinated end scraper and carinated burin cores (Vachons type).
