Résumé
The architectural writing of an intellectual design, La Grande Motte by Jean Balladur In the Architecture discipline, the thesis wishes to confront theory and practice: on the one hand the thought of an architect, Balladur (1924 - 2002) on the other the materiality of a seaside resort which became an architectural icon of the 20th century. Balladur is to join the group of major architects of the 20th century, "the architect of a city". Inspired in his work by literature and philosophy, experienced in urban planning and landscaping practices, he was an inventor of forms that became a sign of a unique style "the city of the pyramids" and as a result of the successful synthesis of knowledge and multidisciplinary practices. La Grande Motte, a city park, an accomplished testimony of the initiatives of its developers combining the freedom to do so, respect for the biotope of the place, the realization of the ideals of its architect who had recourse to multiple skills associated and complementary to his own. The success of this vast project had the value of an example, a pilot station for the development of the Languedoc-Roussillon coast, if it was acquired from users and investors, it had to wait decades for its recognition as a remarkable contemporary architectural heritage.
Dans la discipline Architecture, la thèse souhaite confronter théorie et pratique : d’une part la pensée d’un architecte, Jean Balladur (1924 – 2002) de l’autre la matérialité d’une station balnéaire devenue icône architecturale du XXe siècle.Balladur, "l’architecte d’une ville", doit rejoindre le groupe des architectes majeurs du XXe siècle. Inspiré dans son œuvre par la littérature et la philosophie, rompu aux pratiques de l’urbanisme et du paysagisme, il fut un inventeur de formes devenues signe d’un style unique "la cité des pyramides" et comme résultat de la synthèse réussie de savoirs et pratiques pluridisciplinaires.La Grande Motte, ville parc, témoignage accompli d’initiatives de ses aménageurs conjuguant la liberté du faire, le respect du biotope du lieu, la concrétisation des idéaux de son architecte à recourir à de multiples compétences associées et complémentaires à la sienne. La réussite de ce vaste projet prit valeur d’exemple, station pilote de l’aménagement du littoral du Languedoc-Roussillon, si elle fut acquise auprès des usagers et investisseurs, elle dut attendre des décennies sa reconnaissance en qualité de patrimoine architectural contemporain remarquable.
