Etude de daba en arabe marocain : l'exploration d'un microsystème linguistique

Abstract : Though in Moroccan Arabic, daba is a linguistic marker with a wide variety of uses, it had never been described previously. Through translation, daba is associated with French maintenant (now). This sudy belongs to the field of Arabic dialectology. Its purpose is to determine what we do with daba and how we came to do so. We describe how a first series of uses may have come into being through the taking into account of two generic values (EARLY, LATE), a primary relationship early rather than late and three successive frameworks that drove its evolution. Then we show that, with the help of other elements in the language, these first uses have been completed (by ˁad for expressing immediate anteriority), augmented (with -k), or suppleted (by using the noun saˁa “moment, hour”). Finally, we explain how three extended uses of daba (a remediative future, a discourse particle and bħal_daba used to hypothesize) emerged from instances of its use within the context of a series of processes. The whole description is conducted by positing that uttering daba is to establish a contrast between two states of affairs.
