De la relation d'embauche à la relation d'emploi : une approche en termes de segmentation, Université Paris 1-Panthéon Sorbonne

Abstract : The general problem of this research analyses how the changes in firm’s human resources practices shaped the dynamics of labour market segmentation. Being excluded from internal markets, disadvantaged groups are forced to focus on the external market. Following Doeringer and Piore (1971), the updating of theory has centred on the transformation of internal markets, the development of precarious work and the issue of dualism in labour market. The hypothesis is that relegate position is a queueing problem in the labour market and the “subsidised” jobs influence the competition for job. The thesis consists of three parts. The first part concerns young people who currently enter the labour market. We used the method for clustering self-organising maps, supplemented by an econometric analysis to distinguish eight major classes of career pathways. Qualitative interviews were conducted with young people to complement our statistical results. The second part focuses on jobs found by formerly unemployed people. Risks of short-term and badly paid jobs have also been explored. It appears that leaving unemployment leads massively to low quality jobs. The third part covers the professional mobility of the employees. The analysis of career paths of active workers in the labor market cannot be reduced to the characterization to their individual profiles. It is also necessary to take into account another determining dimension in professional mobility: the previously held job.
