La perception des bras morts fluviaux : Le paysage, un médiateur pour l'action dans le cadre de l'ingénierie de la restauration. Approche conceptuelle et méthodologique appliquée aux cas de l'Ain et du Rhône

Abstract : The first experiences in ecological restorations induced a wide scientific reflexion associating natural and social sciences. The integration of social expectations in such projects is now considered as important. A double interrogation remains. What are the environmental perceptions, and what kind of social expectations do they produce? How to create such a knowledge so that it fits with interdisciplinary approaches as well operational uses for restoration projects? To answer, this Phd defined three objectives. 1/ fundamental: to go deeper in knowledge in environmental perceptions; 2/ operational: to produce some concrete pieces of knowledge as well as some tools to favour the definition of restoration objectives inducing ecological and social benefits; 3/ methodological: to define approaches favouring the interdisciplinary collaboration between natural and social sciences. The landscape - the interface between society and environment - is here considered as a mediating concept, well-adapted to study the social perceptions of environment. The landscape aesthetics has been more specifically considered since it is judged operational to increase public awareness of the ecological issues. This Phd concerns hydrosystems and fluvial wetlands and rely on a case study: a perception analysis of the Ain and Rhône rivers floodplain lake's landscapes concerning different stakeholder's groups. Four surveys (interviews and photo-questionnaires) contributed to the objectives of this Phd.
