Practices of photography and geographical creativity. The Megalopolis sight/site

Résumé

Based on the recent discovery of slides done by Gottmann during the Megalopolis project, this presentation questions the way Jean Gottmann did fieldwork, pictured in the field and used these pictures to develop his masterpiece 'Megalopolis: the Northeastern Seaboard of the United-States' (1961). It also discusses the notion of 'iconography' showing that Gottmann went beyond the expected image of the 'american way of life' to capture emerging 'genre de vie' into the Megalopolis.
