Los tiempos de las transiciones a la democracia en Paraguay y México

Abstract : Paraguay and Mexico have been included in studies of transitions to democracy. However, this article aims to propose a structured and alternative view that incorporates the time of political change as a central axis. Therefore, we take up the original theoretical framework proposed by Marenco to analyze the temporality of transitions. Methodologically, our approach is comparative, historical and qualitative, binary and synchronic, focusing on the temporal development of: 1- Liberalization; 2- Civilian government; 3-Free elections; 4- Opposition president; 5- Left-wing government. This analytical path will allow, in conclusion, to review and conceptually expand the notion of transition by reformulating the look around both “deviant” cases that went from a non-democratic regime to a pluralist one.
