Statut et enjeux de l’intervention chirurgicale dans le transsexualisme masculin

Abstract : With ceaseless advances in medicine making corporal transformation possible and the media diffusing testimonies of sex-changed individuals who have obtained a modification in their civil status, it must not be thought that transsexualism is a “fashionable” phenomenon linked to contemporary society. Transsexualism is the “unshakeable” conviction, on the part of a physiologically normal subject, of belonging to the opposite sex. In the case of male transsexualism, surgery and a change in civil status would seem, in certain cases of apparent psychosis, to play a role in the process of recovery and to exert a stabilizing and calming effect and in other cases, to precipitate the subject into psychosis.
