EL TERRITORIO DEL ALTO GUADIANA: EL AGUA COMO CONFLICTO, EL CONFLICTO COMO RECURSO

Abstract : This contribution proposes a new reading of the water conflict in the Alto Guadiana territory, where it might seem at first sight that everything has already been said. From the qualitative analysis of discourses in application of the grounded theory method, the territorial function of the conflict is discussed under a social geography approach, reflexive constructivist or neo-materialist, that provides explanations for its permanence for decades. This paper allows to question preconceived ideas about the conflict as a social dysfunction. This exercise highlights the gap between what is said and what is lived about the conflict by the water knowledge community and the other actors of the territory. It reveals the mechanisms that transform the conflict into a territorial resource thanks to a positive dynamic of the failure of the proposed solutions and the advantages that the maintenance of the conflict provides to the whole of Alto Guadiana society.
