Is the natural demographic regime of the European Union globalized?
Le régime démographique naturel de l’Union européenne est-il mondialisé ?

As its official title has indicated since the Maastricht Treaty, the process initially initiated in Western Europe in the 1950s has the ambition of creating a true "union". This regional organization, the European Union, is therefore a process of globalization, i.e. of erasing the effects of borders, on the scale of a region of the world. What are the consequences of this unification of the Union on the demographic evolution of its countries? Is the natural demographic regime also characterized, like the European economic system, by a process of globalization? At first it is possible to answer this question in the affirmative, but a more detailed analysis leads to a strong qualification of this initial approach.
Comme son intitulé officiel l’indique depuis le traité de Maastricht, le processus engagé initialement en Europe de l’Ouest dans les années 1950 a bien l’ambition de créer une véritable « union ». Cette organisation régionale qu’est l’Union européenne est donc un processus de mondialisation, c’est-à-dire d’effacement des effets des frontières, à l’échelle d’une région du monde. Quelles sont les conséquences de cette unification de l’Union sur les évolutions démographiques de ses pays ? Le régime démographique naturel se caractérise-t-il, lui aussi, à l’instar du système économique européen, par un processus de mondialisation ? Il est d’abord possible de répondre positivement à cette interrogation, mais une analyse affinée conduit à fortement nuancer cette première approche.
