En attendant la Rénovation : résistances habitantes dans un district moscovite.

Abstract : This paper examines inhabitants’ reactions to Housing Renovation, an urban policy launched in February 2017 in Moscow by the Mayor of the Russian capital. It targets a typical soviet urban stratum: the khrushchevian piatietajki (five-story buildings), residential blocks built between the late 1950s and early 1960s. The study was carried out in an Eastern muscovite district and based on interviews with inhabitants and quantitative data (voting results). The work advances that the uniform and inert vision of the piatietajki conveyed through the municipal speech is at odds with inhabitants’ resistances to renovation. Renovation objectors appropriate inhabited space from the bottom, against the top-down program. Yet inhabitants’ diverging interests against Renovation brought about divides between “the pro” and the “anti” that the vote organized by the municipality has intensified.
