Andean migrants in Spain : Ruptures and continuity in an economic geography of immigration

Migrants andins en Espagne, ruptures et continuités d'une géographie économique de l'immigration

Résumé

Since the 1990s, the migratory panorama of Spain has drastically changed due to the massive economic migration from Andean countries. How does this Latin-American immigration to Spain affect and restructure Spanish geography within the migratory phenomenon ? The profiles of the Andean migrants and the methods of their insertion into the labour market are what characterize the Andean presence in Spain, differentiated by the country of origin (Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Columbia), and observed according to the area of arrival (from Spanish metropolitan areas to rural areas). The article will examine how the economic crisis has affected the Andean migrants in Spain since 2008.
