Récits d'anciens métallos (Vierzon, 1996)

Abstract : Eventhough there are nowadays in France several million workers, number of sociologists prefer to use the term of « popular classes », which names workers and employees at the same time, instead of the expression « working class ». The biographic material which takes place in this book consists in three witnesses of metalworkers which were collected in Vierzon (Cher) in 1996 by Laurent Aucher as a part of a student paper and were put into narrative form by Danielle Champion. It documents working condition during the last century. In the light of the changings that led to a « deformation » of the working class, these narrations echo the current questions about what remains of this collective identity. [editor synopsis]
