Le recueil Grenet : collection poétique, pratiques littéraires et réseaux culturels (Genève, XVIe siècle)

Abstract : The Grenet Collection (Lausanne, BCUL, M1016) is a personal anthology of French poetry copied by a merchant from Auvergne exiled in Geneva in the mid-16th century. The manuscript collects a large range of famous or rare poems by Clément Marot, some texts reflecting on learning how to write, and satirical and polemical poems defending the Reformation. This survey is the first comprehensive study of the book’s material and intellectual shaping and of its stylistic and literary specificities. It aims to address the socio-cultural issues raised by the collecting of poetry for Early Modern ordinary readers.
