Discours, intox et contre-discours en controverse scientifique : l’affaire des « Portier Papers »

Abstract : In this work, we address the issue of fake news in the context of environmental, health and food controversies, particularly around the long controversy over the toxicity of Monsanto's flagship herbicide Roundup and its active molecule, glyphosate. At first glance we question misinformation and disinformation in scientific context, in particular the agonistic turn that one can observe in recent media polemics and affairs, and more recently, the use of false news in scientific controversies. Thus, we analyze the "Portier Papers", a complex undertaking implicating a researcher opposed to glyphosate, Christopher Portier. To do this, we analyze the circulation of fake news in certain media and in the pro-glyphosate sphere, as well as the construction and diffusion of spurious discourses and counter-speeches in the service of a communication on sensitive issue strategy aimed at diverting media coverage from Monsanto.
