Passing through capillarity: The journey of a women’s rugby coach

Résumé

Women’s rugby is a growing sport in France, especially in Gers, one of the regions where rugby is historically most deeply rooted. In this chapter, I draw on biographical analysis to understand how these women’s teams are organised on a day-to-day basis. I focus on the career of a Gers coach, who was for a long time opposed to women’s rugby, but now works to support its development. I show that this change of attitude is rooted in a deep attachment to the game at the amateur level, his “true soul” and his growing antipathy towards professional rugby as a dystopic sphere of danger.
