Les mondes naturalistes. Conclusions

Three outcomes of the project on « Naturalisms from around the World » are: 1) the scholarly work of editing and research on the correspondents who are both anonymous and members of the elite; 2) the rhetorical analysis of the genre of these letters, where epidictics and the language of the emotions mingle with the enticement to fight, prescriptions and solicitations; 3) the new methodological approach, which stems from the corpus itself, and which incites the researcher to adopt a non-ethnocentric bias and to deal with what is international from a non-exclusively French perspective, to study the reception of Zola that is not that of literary criticism, to consider foreign naturalisms in their singularities and not as replicas of the French one, finally, to link the literary and the political together.

Trois apports du projet « Naturalismes du monde » attirent l’attention : 1) le travail d’édition et d’érudition concernant les correspondants qui mêlent les anonymes et les élites ; 2) le travail d’analyse rhétorique sur le genre de ces lettres, où l’épidictique et le langage des émotions côtoient l’invitation au combat, les conseils et les sollicitations ; 3) le renouvellement méthodologique que conditionne ce corpus, en obligeant le chercheur à se départir du travers ethno-centré consistant à traiter de l’international depuis la France, à étudier une réception qui n’est pas celle de la critique littéraire, à considérer les naturalismes étrangers dans leurs singularités et non comme des répliques, et à décloisonner le littéraire et le politique.
