Les fossiles et autres curiosa

Abstract : The occupants of the Reindeer Cave (Arcy-sur-Cure, Yonne) from the Aurignacian period collected and brought back lithic materials to their habitat that bear no trace of modification and use. The exogenous origin of the material is, however, consistent with an intentional collection, but it is not clear what purpose it may have served. Remains of this type are commonly grouped together under the term curiosa. They are fossils, shells or fragments of pyrite relatively common in the Upper Paleolithic and attested in the habitats as early as the Moussterian period.
