La Lettre II attribuée à Platon et les traités « pythagoriciens » Sur la royauté

Abstract : In this paper, we endeavour to examine the relationship between Plato’s Second Letter and the pseudo-Pythagorean treatises On Kingship attributed to Ecphantos and Sthenidas. The similarities between Ecphantos and the Second Letter concern cosmological, political and ethical views, while there are hints that Sthenidas may have been influenced by Numenius’ Middle-Platonic interpretation of the “three kings” mentioned in the Letter. By way of conclusion, it may be argued that, within the framework of Middle-Platonic Pythagorizing tendencies, Ecphantos and Sthenidas seek to connect their political views On Kingship with the enigmatic doctrine of the Second Letter.
