LA BANLIEUE ET PARIS DANS LE PREMIER XIX E SIÈCLE. LE CHOIX DES TÉMOINS AU MARIAGE CIVIL À IVRY-SUR-SEINE

Abstract : This article focuses on the relationships of sociability in Parisian suburbs during the early nineteenth century when this area was still largely rural. From the study of witnesses at civil marriages in Ivry-sur-Seine, a commune bordering Southern Paris, we analyze the frequency and nature of relations between natives and migrants, but also the frequency of relations between the suburb and Paris. The article identifies an endogamic population, closed to new inhabitants and to Parisians, consisting mainly of farmers. The workers of the new district
