Résumé
In his search for a homosexual character which the audience of the théâtre du Gymnase would understand, Bernstein, in his plays, anticipated future changes in French society. An analysis of the transformations between 1901 and 1912 – in both text and performance – of the lesbian character of the Princess in Le détour, illustrates the shifts in the increase of feminist demands in France over a short period.
