Tabernae et sepulcrum dans l'Italie romaine

Abstract : Based on the analysis of a corpus of 46 inscriptions from Roman Italy, the article goes back to the possible meanings of tabernae mentions in a funerary context. The nature of the epigraphic discourse as well as the lack of clear archaeological illustration of the situations evoked by the inscriptions make their interpretation delicate. While it is probable that the word referred to different realities, several clues suggest that the reference to places of trade or distribution is likely. We will therefore examine the consequences of the connection of these buildings to the tomb on the attendance, management and legal status of these funerary areas.
