La diversité des formes d’aide et des répercussions de l’aide sur les aidants

Abstract : There are 8.3 million carers of people over 16 years of age in France. They help people with illness or disability (regardless of age). These people, called family caregivers, do not have a unique profile. The objective of the article is to highlight the diversity of forms of assistance and the effects of assistance on the working and social life, the economic and financial situation of carers as well as on their health. Based on the Handicap-Santé 2008 data, we establish groups of carers according to the age of the person being cared for and the carer’s proximity to him. We then analyse the forms and the repercussions of assistance associated with them. Parents who help a young child and, to a lesser extent, those who help an adult child, are the most helpful caregivers (in terms of number of hours of help and number of caregiving tasks) and are the caregivers who feel the negative impacts of help the most.
