Fetishisms of purity: some elements of psychosociological and semantic analysis on the representations of defloration

Abstract : This text attempts to propose a historical and socio-anthropological interpretation on the representations of the object-hymen and defloration associated or not with the notions of virginity and chastity. After defining its objectified and anatomical meaning, we will discuss its theorization as a technique of the body, more and more poorly regulated. Then we will synthesize its semantic evolutions (connotations, ideologies and impacts of cultural matrices) and historical, above all, representational. Then, successively: the disjunctive model (instrumentalization/ idealization) of virginity and defloration, the proximity between puritan and perverse themes, then some mythographies of this act and its rituals in literature. We will conclude on the philosophical and psychosociological senses of fetishism associated with virginity/ defloration, as structure of protraction.
