Towards a Transnational Literary History: The Algerian Literature between “Integral” and “Integrism”
Pour une histoire littéraire transnationale : La littérature algérienne entre « Intégral » et « Intégrisme »
Résumé
Starting with a critical reflection on Raymond Schwab’s La Renaissance orientale, which calls for an “integral humanism,” this article proposes a method of transnational literary history that reintroduces politics, and illustrated with the Algerian case. In particular, contrary to a teleology of integration, or even a universal hybridization, this method makes it possible to highlight the permanent and dialectical tensions within postcolonial literature between international integration and sometimes “integrist” construction of a national specificity.
Partant d’une réflexion critique sur La Renaissance orientale de Raymond Schwab, qui en appelle à un « humanisme intégral », cet article propose une méthode d’histoire littéraire transnationale réintroduisant le politique, et illustrée à partir du cas algérien. En particulier, à l’encontre d’une téléologie de l’intégration, ou encore d’un métissage universel, cette méthode permet de mettre en lumière les tensions permanentes et dialectiques au sein d’une littérature postcoloniale entre intégration à l’international, et construction parfois « intégriste » d’une spécificité nationale.
