Le château de Verrès en 1390 et l’architecture seigneuriale en Val d’Aoste du XIe siècle au XVe siècle

Abstract : The Valle d’Aosta has some of the most beautiful and interesting fortifications in Europe. During the last two decades a great deal of historical and archeological research has fundamentally renewed knowledge of that architecture. After a brief look at the most recent results of that research, the article focusses on the Château de Verrès, built around 1390, which is one of the most outstanding examples of seigneurial architecture from the Middle Ages in Europe. Particular attention is paid to the appearance and evolution of the ogee arch in the 14th century.
