Itinéraire de Riccold de Monte Croce en Terre sainte : de l'enthousiasme au désespoir

Abstract : During the 13th century, a lot of missionaries went to the Holy Land in order to convert people, especially the Muslims, to the Christian religion. Among the travel letters and the travelogues which came to us, the Riccoldo of Monte Croce’s Liber peregrinationis and Epistolae are quite original. Written for extraordinary recipients (God, the Virgin Mary…), the letters depict a Dominican friar’s moment of doubt, and even a crisis of faith. They show us how the monk’s itinerary towards Bagdad wents hand in hand with a difficult spiritual journey.
