Autorité et vérité dans les relations entre la papauté et les docteurs parisiens au XIIIe siècle

Abstract : « Authority and Truth in the Relationship between the Papacy and the Parisian Doctors in the Thirteenth Century » Was the highly controversial blame Paul put on Peter in the Epistle to Galatians a point of reference in the reflexion about the relationship between the papacy and the doctors, at a time when both the centralized papal monarchy and a magisterium of the doctors developed ? Postulating that those relationships cannot be reduced to a mere distinction between « papal authority » and « theological truth », this paper investigates the positions of popes and doctors in the succession of interpreters of the revealed truth ; the identity of the authentic holder of the « clavis scientiae » ; the authority that theologians gave themselves to determine the truth about papal power, especially in their Quodlibets. In the thirteenth century, the crystallization of truth and authority in the magisterium of the doctors actually took place in a context of tense or conflictual relationships with a papacy that paradoxically seems to have assigned its doctrinal function to an autonomous community of experts, without renouncing to decide in matters of faith and morals.
