Le développement durable porte-t-il encore un projet politique ?

Abstract : The article offers a critical discussion of the theories of the entrepreneurial city to decipher the dynamics of sustainable urban development in Europe. Despite strong economic instrumentalisation, the construction and the diffusion of urban sustainability is not primarily explained by the principle of economic attractiveness. The specifically political dimension of sustainable urban development can be established at four levels: city diplomacy, battles for decentralization, local and interscalar political ecologies. These political processes are not without effect, but are not a match for "urbanobusiness" reinforced by ICT (information and communications technology), converting the sustainable city into a splendid market. Rather than deny the oppositions and political resistances existing in the arena of sustainable urban development, it is these areas of dispute that it seems useful to analyze in prospective terms.
