Luxe (taraf) et raffinement (ẓarf) à la table abbasside

Abstract : With the advent of the Abbasid dynasty and the creation of Baghdad, the Arab-Muslim culture will experience unprecedented radiance between the 8th and 10th centuries. In this urban capital, there is an elite for whom food is as much a source of sustenance as it is to enjoy the pleasures inherent to the privileged classes. In a context of social and ethnic diversity, but also of the diversity of widely available food products, cooking is evolving and becoming one of the favorite pastimes of these socially privileged consumers. Around gastronomy, a system of values will be created and luxury and refinement become a standard.
